WinSat is short for

Winter Saturdays.

It is a friendly Golf Competition

Upton-by-Chester Golf Club.

The League started in 1984.
It now comprises 12 Members and has an annual Golf Tour usually for 4 days shortly after Easter

League Organisation & Format

The League is played as 4-Ball Better Ball, and each player plays once with every other member over a period of 11 matches .

The Fixtures are decided by ballot for the set of 11 games and then redrawn for any further matches which can be played that year.

Play is off club handicaps, except that the immediate past winner deducts one from his current handicap for the following year.

The Secretary Post is decided by ballot of all members except for the Treasurer, with each member having a equal number of years in post. (SEE Notables Page)

The Secretary supervises the league and organises Away Days for members and guests, plus Dine-ins to which the members Ladies and also some guests are invited.

The Winner receives the WinSat Trophy.

Last Player gets the Copper Bottom Trophy.

The Picture in our heading is:
Redan the 15th Hole at North Berwick West Links.
Besides being on one of our favourite courses; Redan is one of the most copied of any hole in the world. Several versions of it have been built at courses in the United States including the National and the East course at Merion.

The green is set on a plateau which runs at an angle to the line of play and is wickedly difficult to hit and hold. A deep bunker encrouching into the green is the final resting place for many a tee shot which has looked value for a much better fate when it left the clubhead. A hump short of the green makes the tee shot slightly blind but there would be an outcry if it were ever removed.

Just your average par 3 in fact !!
